a mission...

Just this past April I made a trip down to Texas to say goodbye to my dear Auntie Marie. She had  lived a full, hearty life. A life that was full of happiness, a caring heart  and a true dedication to her Catholic faith.
It was on this same trip down, however, that I had an experience that would forever touch me, on the inside, at the heart.
I met a very unexpected person on that trip, at my aunts funeral. Her name was Emma. She arrived at my aunts wake and somehow she was drawn to me! She insisted that she sit next to me. She made pleasant conversation with me. She made SURE that she handed me her handmade rosary at the end of a group recitation of the Rosary.
You see, Emma makes handmade rosaries. Her mission, she told me, was to hand them out to all those who needed (or wanted) one. She had even made enough that night to hand out to each person in attendance at my aunts wake. Enough for all of us to recite the Rosary, one of my Auntie Marie's favorite things to do!
After the set of prayers, Emma disappeared, quietly. One of the last things she said to me was, "please, pray for me and my 5 daughters!" Surely, I agreed that I would.

The next day was the funeral mass at the church. As I arrived and walked up to the church a cousin of mine eagerly made his way to me. In hand was a  large Ziploc bag. He told me that a lady had stopped by earlier, she had needed for me to have the bag and the contents in it. I looked over the bag and found that it was filled with more handmade rosaries and a large amount of information to make my own. Emma had left these items for me. For she felt in her heart that I would be a good candidate to pass this "mission" on to others as she had done for me!

I do keep Emma  and her family in my prayers. I also have started to make my own handmade rosaries to pass along.

If anyone is interested in a free handmade rosary, or if you know of someone that may be, please just email me at  junipercards@yahoo.com and I will get them to you at no charge.

Click on the rosary above for complete instructions on how to recite it.

God Bless!

for the birds

Bird Seed WreathA while ago I saw a project that was perfect for our outdoor feathery friends. An ice wreath made with bird seed. Here is how my daughters and I just made ours.

First, you will need to find some sort of container to make the wreath in. We used a bundt pan. Make sure the container can withstand frozen material inside!

We took some cooking oil and with a paper towel, wiped the entire inside of the pan. This helps the ice mold, when completed, slip out without any fuss.

Next you need to decide which type of seed to use. We had sunflower seeds on hand, so that is what we used.

Take some seed and pour into the pan. We used a couple of scoopfuls.

Then you take some water and fill the mold up. I think a half full or less works best. The thicker it is, the longer it takes to chill up.

We then took our creation outside. We set it in the snow and left if to set. It can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day. Check to make sure it is rock hard before taking it out of the mold, or else all the seed with pour out... we made this mistake at first!

When all frozen, bring it inside.

Turn it upside down to release from mold.

We used some red string and attached it securely to the wreath. Find a nice spot outside to hang it and wait for the birds to find their new winter treat!

the ART show

Art is not a thing; it is a way. ~Elbert Hubbard

My daughter recently had one of her school art projects represented in an art show here in town. Needless to say, we were very excited! Every year the Box Factory for the arts holds this art show. All schools in the county are represented. It was so fun to see my daughters work, along with all the other many talented youngsters works!

i LOVE this book

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
-Theodore Roosevelt

I usually do not splurge on books, but this one is so worth it! At the bookstore I was drawn to the cover. After opening it, I couldn't put it down. Amanda Blake Soule has such a fantastic way of creating fun, simple projects, in a fun and simple way.
I give it two thumbs up!

a HANDMADE greeting

Here are a few handmade greeting cards I made.

I made these rubber stamps myself for this card.

These two cards are hand sewn on the paper.

Found driftwood was added to these.
